March Newsletter
In this months newsletter we have several things to cover, so please read this carefully and don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have! 1. Our Rehearsal and Recital dates and location have been set for the Kirkham Auditorium on the BYU-Idaho Campus, for Wednesday, May 4th (rehearsal) and Saturday May 7th (recital). 2. The Rigby Studio will be holding all of our regular classes in March. 3. We have scheduled pictures for Fri. April 8th, & Sat. April 9th. We will be taking them at our building, and each class will be assigned a time to be there for their group pictures, as well as individual pictures if you want them. We will be sending out information in the next few weeks, letting you know what time to be there and what each group will be wearing. 4. If you have not paid your $12.00 recital fee, it needs to be turned in as soon as possible. 5. Costumes are getting finished up, and we will be bringing some of them in for fittings. We are very excited with how our costumes are turning out, and we’re sure the dancers will be also. There are a few items that we will hang onto until the very last minute for various reasons, but for the most part, once your costumes are finished and paid for, we will be sending them home with you at the end of the month. We realize that this may go without saying, but once your costume is at home with you, please avoid anything happening to them. It is a great temptation for these dancers to put them on, and we are glad that they are excited about them, but many of these items are simply irreplaceable, and we would hate to see anything happen to them before recital. 6. Each of the dancers will be brining home notes concerning costume balances. Some of them will be attached to this letter and some we will be handing out in class as we are still finalizing a few things on them. If you do not receive a costume balance note, please contact Krista and she will give you another copy. Statements on the front of your envelopes should be current. Remember that all fees must be paid in full in order for your dancer to participate in Recital. If you have any questions please check these statements. We just want to be sure that everyone is on the “same page”, and that all of these incredible dancers will have the opportunity to perform at recital. 7. As we mentioned before, every effort is made to keep our costs down, and at the same time provide costumes that are effective and appropriate. We literally spend all year looking for costumes and pieces on sale and at the lowest possible price. You pay our actual cost for all costumes and we do not mark them up as most studios do. In keeping with this philosophy, we are asking each dancer to supply their own finale costume. (Preschool classes are not in the finale so this does not apply to them). We are dancing to a medley of summer songs for our finale, and they can use anything that looks like beach or summer wear. Please make sure that if your dancer needs a leotard to go under their costume you let us know asap so we can order them one. We mentioned in the Feb. newsletter that each dancer will need a costume bag so you can refer to that note if you have any questions. Please bring it in with your child’s name on it so that we can put their new costumes in it and label them. 8. Please be watching for information in the next few weeks concerning pictures, rehearsal, recital, and registration for “Summer & Fall 2011”. We are planning an exciting summer program at Dance Unlimited including workshops and classes in Creative Movement, Ballet/Jazz Combination, Tumbling, Beginning Clogging, Intensive Ballet, Jazz, and Modern classes, if we have enough interest, as well as our Performance Company and our Competitive Company (for High School age dancers only). We will be posting more information on all of these items on our blog and Facebook page very soon. 9. April will be the last month we will be collecting class fees. Although we wanted to have recital later this year we were not able to make it work with the BYU-I Schedule. If you already paid May fees you can either apply it to your costume balance, registration for next year, or we can refund your money. It may be helpful to let your child’s teacher know our rehearsal and recital dates so that when they are scheduling end of the year activities we can avoid conflicts. Most of them are happy to do this. One final, but very important note, we are more than happy to do anything that we can to help our dancers. Please bring recordable CD’s to get their music, come and video tape, write down notes, practice at home, or ask for extra help and we will come in whenever we can, but none of these things will help if your dancers are not at class. We know personally how much illness is going around right now, and you simply can’t bring sick children, but make arrangements with someone in their class, or with us, to help catch them up on whatever they may miss. The whole point of having a recital is to give all of our dancers the opportunity to share what they have learned, and to feel special, talented, important, and confident. We have done this long enough to know that anything can go wrong on stage, but we want them to have fun and enjoy the exhilaration performing. We hope you know how much these dancers mean to us, and we want to do everything we can to make this a positive experience for them!
